<p>The Three Sisters are a trio of lakes connected by short creeks in Nipissing District, Ontario, Canada, about north of the village of Temagami. They are arranged in a north-south trending line with a maximum length of about. This group of lakes is situated in the geographic Best Township, which makes up part of the Municipality of Temagami.</p><br>
<h2>Hydrology</h2><br>
<p>The North Sister is about long and wide, the Middle Sister is about long and wide and the South Sister is about long and wide; all lie at an elevation of. Three unnamed creeks flow into the North Sister at its northern end; the South Sister also has two unnamed creek inflows, one at its northern tip and another at its southeastern tip. The primary outflow is an unnamed creek, from the south end of the South Sister, to Thieving Bear Lake, which eventually flows via an unnamed creek, Net Lake, Net Creek, Cassels Lake, Rabbit Lake, the Matabitchuan River, Lake Timiskaming and the Ottawa River into the Saint Lawrence River.</p><br>
<p>Kutiah Lungma Glacier is a 12 km long and 3 km wide glacier in Karakorum mountain ranges in Stak Valley of District Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. It is located in a valley, Stak Valley , which is in the Subdivision Roundu of District Skardu Gilgit-Baltistan. The Glacier is in the north of Nanga Parbat  about 20 kilometers away from the northern bank of Indus River. One can access the glacier from June–September from Skardu or Gilgit city, as it is about 10 km away from the Gilgit-Skardu road. An un-metalled road from Gilgit-Skardu Road at the junction of Indus River and Stak Valley stream leads to the base camp of the glacier.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Kutiah Lungma Glacier has a long history and it has a story related to it, some call it fictional but some believe that it had happened. The story reads; The Stak Valley in the past was the headquarter of the Subdivision Roundu, as at the time there was no road network and the valley was fertile and the biggest valley in the subdivision. There was a king named "Rong Lonchay" who had six daughters. The youngest daughter was Apino. The king had distributed his wealth and the assets among the daughters before his death. As Apino was the youngest and most loved one, therefore he had given away the biggest and the fertile valley of Stak to the Apino. She lived in the Stak Valley and in the last ages she had lost her eye sight. Once a local resident misconducted her by presenting her with a dunk cake pretending to be a cookie. She looked offended and cursed on the residents, praying the God to vanish the valley and send his calamity and adversity on them. She left the valley and the glacier started expanding downward towards the inhabited areas. It is said that the area which is now covered by the glacier was once a fertile area and fully covered by human settlements. Now the whole area is covered by the glacier and there is nothing except huge reserve of ice and rocks.</p><br>
<h2>Climatic effect on surging and retreat</h2><br>
<p>The glacier had advanced about 12.8 kilometers in 1955 towards the populated area within 91 days. The glacier was advancing at a staggering rate of just over a mile every month, 15 feet every hour and had devoured acres of pastureland. The local elders still tell the story of the glaciers advancing towards the pastureland. According to the elders the glacier advanced at a very noticeable rate i.e. the glacier would first grow vertically and then suddenly fall flat. Within months the glacier had reached at the first hamlet and people were very concerned that the whole Stak Valley would be devoured by the glacier if it didnt retreat. People also relate it with an indigenous logic that the glaciers also have gender and the Kutia Lungma Glacier was female and it was advancing to meet its male counterpart i.e. the glacier in the opposite Ganji Valley across the Indus River. People believe that it was real. The elders tell that they brought pieces of ice from the other glacier which they thought to be male and dropped the ice pieces on the Kutia Liungma Glacier. Along with people arranged rituals and prayed the god to save them from the glacier advancing. Within two to three years the glacier retreated about 4-5 kilometers. Now the glacier is about 4-5 kilometers uphill from the last village of Stak Valley which is known as Tookla Village.</p><br>
<p>The Oxford Courthouse Square Historic District is a historic district located in Oxford, Mississippi, which is the county seat of Lafayette County. The district has existed since the city&#39;s incorporation in 1837, and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 2, 1980. It serves as the cultural center of Oxford, which also contains the University of Mississippi. Several notable residents have lived in Oxford whose images contribute to the popular culture of the square, such as writer William Faulkner, whose works set in the Lafayette county-inspired Yoknapatawpha prominently feature the square. The current standing courthouse was constructed in 1871 after an original temporary one was destroyed by union troops during the American Civil War in 1864.</p><br>
<h2>Architecture</h2><br>
<p>The architectural structure of the district is reflective of the city&#39;s existence during the American Civil War. Physically, it has retained two-story brick and stucco walled buildings that include balconies and cast-iron columns. The district serves as the commercial, political and cultural center of Oxford, and also includes several churches. Notable structures include the statues of William Faulkner at Oxford City Hall and a confederate memorial statue in front of the south-facing side of the courthouse.</p><br>
<p>Gray Rocks is a historic farm property on United States Route 2 in Richmond, Vermont. Developed in the early 19th century, it was in agricultural use until 1978, and has a well-preserved set of farm buildings dating from c. 1813 to the early 20th century. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>Gray Rocks is located east of Richmond&#39;s town center, on 380 acre of land straddling United States Route 2. The property extends in part across the right-of-way of Interstate 89 to the northern bank of the Winooski River, and north into the hills above the river floodplain. Much of the area south of US 2 is open land, now in pasture or hay, and there are sections of open land north of the road, where most of the land is wooded. The cluster of farm buildings is set on both sides of US 2, with the farmhouse and garage on the north side, and barns and other outbuildings on the south side. The farmhouse is a two-story brick gable-roofed building, set facing west. It has a porch extending across its front, and is basically Federal in its architecture, although it has Italianate paired brackets in its eaves.</p><br>
<p>The property was developed as a farm about 1800 by James Butler, who sold it in 1813 to Asa Rhodes, with the house then standing. It was farmed for over a century by members of the Rhodes family, and in the 20th century by the Andrewses, who ceased operations in 1978. The farm&#39;s buildings represent changing trends in agriculture during that time, from general agriculture to specializations first in sheep and then dairy.</p><br>
<p>Montauk, also known as Montauk State Preserve, is a historic building located northeast of Clermont, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.</p><br>
<h2>William Larrabee</h2><br>
<p>William Larrabee, who had the house built in 1874, was a Connecticut native who made his fortune as a banker, manufacturer and land owner. As a Republican he served for 18 years in the Iowa Senate and then two terms as the Governor of Iowa. While he was one of Iowa&#39;s wealthiest landowners in his day, he helped to change Iowa politics and make government more responsive to the needs of its citizens. During his political career he led a crusade against the uncontrolled rate abuses by the railroads, which in part, led to the creation of the Interstate Commerce Commission. After his second term he retired here to Montauk. He held a couple minor roles in his later years as the chairman of the Iowa State Board of Control, and as the President of the Iowa Commission of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis. He was a friend of Theodore Roosevelt, and helped to establish the Progressive Party.</p><br>
<h2>Montauk</h2><br>
<p>Initially the Larrabees lived closer to the Turkey River, but fearing illnesses such as malaria his wife Anna desired a house on the hill. The two-story, 14 room, Italianate mansion was designed by Milwaukee architect E. Townsend Mix. The bricks for its construction were kilned at Clermont, and the stone was quarried at the Williams Quarry from nearby Clermont. The porches and the widows walk that caps the hip roof are composed of wood. The house was named after Montauk Point Light as an homage to Mrs. Larrabee&#39;s seafaring family.</p><br>
<p>Montauk was a working farm with a caretaker’s house, water tower, well house, laundry, creamery, workshop, barn, corncribs, sheds, vegetable garden, orchard. They raised peacocks, turkeys, chickens, and cattle.</p><br>
<p>The house contains many works of art from artists such as Louise Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun, William Bradford, and Pieter de Molijn. Iowa artist David John Cue painted the family&#39;s portraits. The yard has four bronze statues of Generals Ulysses S. Grant, William Tecumseh Sherman and Grenville M. Dodge and Admiral David Farragut. They were commissioned by Larrabee and created by George Edwin Bissell and J. Massey Rhind.</p><br>
<p>After Larrabee&#39;s death in 1912 the house remained in the family. His daughter Anna was the last member of the family to live here, and she maintained it until her death in 1965. The family opened the house to the public in 1967. They maintained ownership until 1976 when they deeded the house, its contents and 40 acre of land to the state of Iowa. The State Historical Society of Iowa preserves the property. It was dedicated as a state preserve in 1984.</p><br>
<p>The District No. 2 School is a historic school building at 2442 Polly Hubbard Road in Georgia, Vermont. Built in 1843 and enlarged in 1931, it is a good local example of mid-19th century vernacular Greek Revival school architecture. It was restored in the 1990s after being abandoned for some years, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The former District No. 2 School stands in a rural of western Georgia, on the north side of Polly Hubbard Road, with a wooded area around its small clearing to the north, and open fields to the south. It is a single-story building, with a stone main block and wood frame ell. The stone block is fashioned out of random coursed local limestone with ashlar finish, and is covered by a front facing gabled roof. The main facade is symmetrical, with a center entrance flanked by sash windows and sheltered by a simple gabled hood. The ell is finished in wooden clapboards, and is covered by cross-gabled roof. It has a bank of sash windows on its east-facing facade. The interior is largely a reproduction of its 1931 appearance, the result of a major restoration in 1997-98.</p><br>
<p>The stone portion of the school was built in 1843, after many years of the district students being educated in informal spaces. It was built by three local residents, using stone from a quarry a few miles away. It was enlarged in 1931, after improvements in school building standards were mandated by the state. This resulted in the construction of the wood frame ell, which provided suitable lighting and improved sanitation. The school was closed in 1959, when the town&#39;s district schools were consolidated into a single graded elementary school. It was thereafter used for a number of years as a seasonal residence, and was then abandoned. It was restored in the 1990s by private owners, and now serves as a nature center.</p><br>
<p>Joslin Farm is a historic farm property at 1661 East Warren Road in Waitsfield, Vermont. First developed c. 1830, the farm is home to one of Vermont&#39;s shrinking number of round barns. Now used as a bed and breakfast called The Inn at the Round Barn, the farm property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>Joslin Farm is located in a rural area of central Waitsfield, on 84 acre stradding East Warren Road south of Waitsfield village. The land east of the road is mostly open fields, while that to the west is open near the road, and wooded as it rises a hill. The small complex of farm buildings is set on the east side of the road, with the round barn at the northern end, and the elongated main house to its south. The barn is actually a twelve-sided timber frame structure, arranged as a bank barn with ground access on three levels. The house is a vernacular 2-1/2 story wood frame structure, with modest Greek Revival elements. It is extended to the north by a series of ells ending in a carriage barn.</p><br>
<p>The farm property was purchased by Cyrus Joslin in November 1831, and was his home until his death in 1866. The oldest portion of the house is probably one of its ells, with the present main block a later construction. The barn was probably built in 1910 by Joslin&#39;s grandson Clem. The property was operated in the 20th century as a dairy farm, and ceased those operations in 1977. The buildings have since been rehabilitated for use as a bed and breakfast inn.</p><br>
<p>Maple View Sanitarium, also known as Community Hospital, Good Samaritan Nursing Home, and the Fayette County Historical Center, is a historic building located in West Union, Iowa, United States. It was built by Dr. Frank Beach Whitmore in 1903. The facility could accommodate 12 to 15 patients, it had its own operating room, and office. There was also a general store located in the commercial space on the main floor. Because medical care in a hospital was new in the community, it did not succeed and it folded in 1905. Whitmore left to become a missionary in China. The building housed professional offices and retail businesses until 1914 when the Nurses&#39; Benevolent Association under the auspices of the Seventh-day Adventist Church bought the building for a hospital. It was more successful as a hospital the second time, and it was acquired by the city for a community hospital in 1920. After a new hospital building was constructed in 1951, the Good Samaritan Society bought the building for a nursing home. By 1973 changes in state law no longer made operating a nursing home here feasible. The Fayette County Historical Society acquired the building in 1975 for its use, and it operates a local history museum in the building. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.</p><br>
<p>The Hochsimmer is a volcanic cone, in the Eifel Mountains in Germany. It rises near Ettringen in the Rhineland-Palatine county of Mayen-Koblenz. At the summit is an observation tower, the Hochsimmer Tower.</p><br>

<p>The Hochsimmer rises within the High Eifel (East Eifel) around 1.7 km west-northwest of the village of Ettringen. Flowing past its western foot roughly from north to south is part of the middle reaches of the Rhine tributary, the Nette. Through its valley runs the Landesstraße 83, which links Weibern to the northwest with Mayen to the southeast. At the eastern foot of the hill is the L 82 road to Bell, and, at its southern foot is the village of St. Johann.</p><br>
<h3>Height and summits</h3><br>
<p>The Hochsimmer has two domed summits or kuppen: the West Top (50&deg;21&prime;38.5&Prime;N latitude, 7&deg;11&prime;54.8&Prime;E longitude) is high and the East Top (50&deg;21&prime;36.3&Prime;N latitude, 7&deg;12&prime;9.1&Prime;E longitude) is high. About 600 metres southwest of the summit is the Kleiner Simmer.</p><br>
<h2>Towers</h2><br>
<p>On the east top of the Hochsimmer stands the 18-metre-high Hochsimmer Tower, an observation tower built in 1909 and 1911. From its viewing platform there is a view of the Eastern High Eifel, the Middle Rhine Basin and of Ettringen; in good visibility, even Cologne Cathedral may be seen. About 30 metres northwest of the viewing tower is a transmission tower.</p><br>

<p>The Boston Finishing Works is a historic industrial factory complex at 160 Water Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The site was developed industrially beginning in 1873, and was in regular use until 2000 as one of the town&#39;s major industrial employers. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Boston Finishing Works plant occupies about 9 acre of land in southeastern Williamstown, bounded on the west by Water Street and the east by the Green River, which was the plants original source of power. The plant has eight surviving buildings, out of a historical maximum of more than twenty. Five of these form the plants main building, a brick three-story structure with one and two-story wings. Two other buildings are joined into an L-shaped footprint; one of them, built in 1873, is the oldest surviving building on the property. The property also includes archaeological remnants of the waterworks that originally powered the plant, including a sluiceway and filled-in mill pond.</p><br>
<p>The industrial history of the site begins in 1873, when Arthur Loop founded a company that produced cotton twine on the premises. Although business boomed after the railroad arrived in 1875, the company closed in 1883 with the death of one of its major backers. The site was taken over in 1892 and expanded by the Boston Finishing Works, which specialized in the finishing of unprocessed cotton cloth. That company closed in 1906, and the site was next used for the production of corduroy and velvet fabrics. In 1930 the site was converted into an automotive maintenance and repair facility, and in 1936 it was purchased by Cornish Wire, which manufactured electrical wires and cabling until 1960. This business declined through the 1970s and 1980s, and its last owner closed it in 2000. In 2005, the town&#39;s historic commission ordered the demolition of most of its post-1930 buildings, retaining only the older buildings of the complex.</p><br>
<p>St. Luke&#39;s School and Recreation Center is a historic building located in St. Lucas, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>St. Luke&#39;s Catholic Church and the city of St. Lucas were both established in 1855 by people who were largely of German heritage. The school was begun at the same time as the parish. Lay people served as its first teachers until 1876 when the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration from La Crosse, Wisconsin started teaching in the school. A large frame school building and convent were built the same year. The parish and its school were largely defined by two long-time pastorates, those of the Rev. F.X. Boeding (1882-1928) and Msgr. Francis Schuh (1928-1967). Boeding had another frame school building constructed in 1905, and it was destroyed in a fire on February 11, 1911.</p><br>
<p>Boeding is credited with designing the present Georgian Revival building that was completed later in 1911. It is possible he consulted with Dubuque contractor Anton Zwack, who is responsible for building the present St. Lukes Church across the street three years later. The 2½-story, brick structure built on a raised limestone basement. It is capped with a hip roof and features a large wall dormer with a Palladian window. Both of the upper floors have three large classrooms. St. Lukes High School was established by Msgr. Schuh in 1941. The increased enrollment necessitated a two-story addition onto the back of the building with added classroom space in 1947.</p><br>
<p>The recreation center was built onto the east side of the school building in 1950. It provided a gymnasium, bowling lanes, and a cafeteria. The cafeteria also doubled as a place for parish and community meetings. The Modern Movement structure is a single-story in height built over an exposed basement in the back. The basement is concrete while the main part of the building is clay hollow tile block. It has an entrance vestibule on the front and it is connected to the school building by means of a passageway.</p><br>
<p>Enrollment in the schools peaked in the early 1960s with 275 students. The high school remained in operation until 1967. Students from St. John Nepomucene in neighboring Fort Atkinson joined the students at St. Lukes before the school was closed in 1997. That year the parish schools from St. Lucas, Fort Atkinson and Holy Trinity in Protivin were merged. The consolidated Trinity Catholic School utilizes the building in Protivin. The building now houses the German-American Museum and Heritage Center.</p><br>
<p>Parknabinnia wedge tomb is a prehistoric wedge tomb located in the Burren area of County Clare, Ireland.</p><br>

<p>The District No. 8 School, also known locally as the Brick School, is a historic school building on United States Route 7 in Georgia, Vermont. Built in 1891, it was one of the last district schools to be built in the state, which mandated town control over schools the following year. It now houses the collection of the Georgia Historical Society and is known as the Brick Schoolhouse Museum. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Brick School stands about 0.5 mi north of the village center of Georgia, on the west side of US 7. It is a single-story brick building in a T shape, with a front-gabled main block from which an ell extends to the left side. The main block is three bays wide, with sash windows set in segmented-arch openings, and a small half-round window in the gable above. The main entrances are in the front of the side ell, on either side of another window, all of which also set in segmented-arch openings. The interior has a single large chamber in the main block, and three small rooms in the ell, one of which historically served as a privy.</p><br>
<p>The school was built, apparently in stages, in 1891, on the site of a previous school building. There is some architectural evidence that elements of the previous building were reused in its constructions. Alterations were made to the building between 1927 and 1930 by the town to bring the building up to then-current state standards regarding lighting and plumbing. The school was closed in 1940, its students transferred to the Old White Meeting House. It burned down in 1952, at which time this school was reopened, again operating until 1959. The building was rehabilitated in the 1970s for use by the Georgia Historical Society; it continues to be owned by the town.</p><br>
<p>The Jones–Pestle Farmstead is a historic farm property at 339 Bridge Street in Waitsfield, Vermont. First developed in the 1820s, it is a well-preserved 19th-century disconnected farm complex. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>Joslin Farm is located on the southeastern edge of Waitsfield village, on 13 acre stradding Bridge Street. The farmstead is a cluster of buildings on either side of Bridge Street just northwest of its junction with East Warren and Joslin Hill Roads. The main house, a 1-1/2 story wood frame Cape, is set near the road on the north side, connected by a breezeway to a horse barn. Across the street is a c. 1825 English barn, with a granary standing next to it. The house has a modest Greek Revival entrance surround.</p><br>
<p>The property was probably established as a farm in the 1820s by Daniel Thayer, an early settler of Waitsfield who also established mills on the nearby Mad River. Thayer left Waitsfield in 1853, and the property came into the hands of Orvis Jones. The property remained in the Jones family until 1938, when it was acquired by the Pestles. Ray Pestle served as principal of the local high school, and raised dairy cattle on the property until 1966, when regular agricultural use of the property ended. The farm complex is a well-preserved example of a disconnected farmstead, and the barn is one of the oldest in the region.</p><br>
<p>Xili Reservoir is a reservoir located in Xili Subdistrict, Nanshan District, in southwestern Shenzhen in the southwestern China.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Construction began in December 1959 and completed in March 1960. Its drainage basin is about 29 km&sup2, and it can hold up to 3,238.81 m&sup3; of water at full capacity. It belongs to the first grade water source protection area and is part of Shenzhen&#39;s water supply network. The reservoir provides drinking water and water for irrigation. The reservoir discharges into Dasha River which empties into the South China Sea in Shenzhen Bay.</p><br>

<p>The Gleninsheen wedge tombs are two prehistoric wedge tombs located in the Burren area of County Clare, Ireland.</p><br>

<p>The tombs are located on private property in the townland of Gleninsheen, parish of Rathborney, not far from the N480 road. One is located right next to the road. The other, partially collapsed, is around 100 m to the northeast in a field.</p><br>
<p>They are among eighty wedge tombs still extant in Clare. The largest concentration of them is found on Roughan Hill near Kilnaboy.</p><br>
<p>In 1932, not far from the wedge tombs, a local man discovered the Gleninsheen Gorget, a golden neck ornament dating from c. 800 to 700 BC, concealed in one of the limestone grykes. It is now on exhibit at the National Museum of Ireland, Dublin.</p><br>

The forest covers of 836 acre of mixed woodland, and is managed by the town as a conservation and recreation resource. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016 as a good example of a municipally managed forest in the state of Vermont.</p><br>
<h2>Setting</h2><br>
<p>The Hinesburg Town Forest is located on its eastern border with neighboring Huntington, in the foothills of the Green Mountains which rise to the east. It consists of two parcels of land, which meet at a corner through which Hayden Hill Road passes.The road runs along the northern border of the larger southern parcel, with an unmaintained portion of roadway joining two maintained sections. Public parking lots are found at the ends of the two maintained sections of Hayden Hill Road, as well as in the main parcel&#39;s southeast corner where Economou Road provides access from Huntington.</p><br>
<p>The main geographic features of the forest are a knoll in the smaller northern parcel, and a U-shaped ridge (open to the east) in the main parcel. The main parcel is accessible via hiking and mountain biking trails, and a multipurpose trail open to ATVs, horses, and bicycles joining the parking areas of Hayden Hill West and Economou Road. Popular trails include Maiden, Passing the Horizon, Dragons Tail, Homestead, and Eagles Trail.</p><br>
<h2>Management</h2><br>
<p>The forest is managed by a volunteer committee of the town, in consultation with state and county forestry officials, and conservation groups including the Audubon Society. The forest is basically broken down into stands of different types of trees and microclimates, the result of a concerted reforestation effort begun in the 1930s after land acquisition began. It has major stands of Norway spruce, white and red pine, and a variety of northern hardwoods, including sugar maple, red maple, birch, beech, and oak. The forest has one particularly swampy area, the Alder Swamp, whose ecosystem is particularly dynamic.</p><br>
<p>The forest is actively managed, with occasional harvesting and sale of timber, followed replanting of the logged areas.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Land for the forest was acquired by the town over a period of just over twenty years, beginning in 1936. Much of the land was historically in agricultural use, but the poor quality of the land for cultivation, and the cost of maintaining town roads into remote areas led to a decline in the hill farms in this area. Land acquisitions (some by purchase, other by taking for back taxes) were typically followed by efforts to replant the open lands that were previously pasture or cultivated land. Buildings were demolished, but foundations and other artifacts such as stone walls remain as a feature of the forest&#39;s landscape. The land was formally designated a town forest in 1958. It was not until the 1980s that it was brought under a formally developed management plan, and the recreational trail network was cut in the 2000s.</p><br>
<p>Poulawack Cairn is a prehistoric burial cairn located in the Burren area of County Clare, Ireland.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>The cairn is located in the townland of Poulawack, in the parish of Carran. It is situated on private property. There is also a cashel or ringfort nearby.</p><br>
<p>Similar structures of notable size are found on Turlough Hill and Slievecarran in the north east of The Burren.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>Today, the cairn is about 21 m in diameter and 2.5 m high in the center. It was first excavated by Hugh Hencken of Harvard University in 1934 and has since then been the subject of repeated investigations. Hencken originally thought that the cairn was constructed in two phases over a relatively short time in the early Bronze Age (2000 to 1500 BC). It is now consensus, however, that the cairn was in fact built over a period of c. 1,800 years in three separate phases. Phase I is a polygonal stone cist made from slabs of limestone, dated to around 3500 BC (Neolithic), containing the remains of three adults and one child plus several objects. It was likely covered by a low cairn of stones with a surrounding circle of stones 10 m in diameter. Phase II took place over 1,000 years later. At that time three more burial cists were inserted into the cairn, which had previously likely collapsed partially outwards over the kerb stones. This phase, around 2000 BC, included the burial of eight people, which may have taken place over an extended period of time. The third and final phase of construction occurred over a relatively short time at some point between 1600 and 1400 BC. The original cairn was covered with a new, larger cairn surrounded with a new circle of kerb stones roughly 14 m in diameter. Three additional cists were inserted at that time, containing three more burials. The remains of a fourth person were found placed directly on the limestone surface of the plateau, covered with slabs and then enclosed within the expanding cairn. Thus the cairn saw burials of just 16 people over a 1,800-year period. Like at Poulnabrone dolmen, only very special people were apparently buried at this site.</p><br>
<p>Yerköprü Waterfall  is a waterfall in Mersin Province, southern Turkey. It is a registered natural monument.</p><br>
<h2>Location and access</h2><br>
<p>The waterfall is located at Evren village of Mut district in Mersin Province, on the district border to Gülnar. It is situated to the southeast of Gezende Dam. Its distance to Mut is 35 km.</p><br>
<p>In early March 2013, the road leading to the waterfall was blocked by rocks due to a landslide. After almost two years, construction works began for access to the waterfall on the other bank of the creek. It can be reached by a wooden staircase down from a bridge over the creek.</p><br>
<p>The site is a popular tourist attraction. Admission is collected for visitors and vehicles.</p><br>
<h2>Waterfall</h2><br>
<p>The waterfall is on the Ermenek Creek, a tributary of the Göksu River. It was formed in a deep canyon by a narrow spring emerged in faults of Cretaceous-period limestone formation rocks, which are about 110 million years old. It is fed by an underground water tunnel of about 200 - length, and 10 m width, a cave with stalactites and a rich vegetation. Waters from the Gezende Dam join the spring water in the cave.</p><br>
<p>In 2001, the waterfall, covering an area of 1,115.72 da, was registered as a natural monument by the Nature Reserve and Nature Parks Administration of the Ministry of Forest and Water Management.</p><br>
<p>Clermont Public School, also known as Larrabee School, is a historic building located in Clermont, Iowa, United States. The school was named for its patron, William Larrabee, who was the twelfth Governor of Iowa. Larrabee himself had been a teacher in Allamakee County, Iowa. During his time in the Iowa Senate and as governor he championed education reform. He used as one of his campaign slogans: "A schoolhouse on every hill and no saloons in the valley." Larrabee and his wife Anna studied school buildings for a number of years, and were involved in planning this building. They hired Cedar Rapids, Iowa architect Charles A. Dieman to design the structure. R.A. Wallace, a contractor from Cedar Rapids, was responsible for its construction. The building was over-engineered as Larrabee insisted that the strength of everything be doubled. The bricks were produced, and the limestone was quarried, locally. It is a two-story Neoclassical building that features a classical portico, brick pilasters with Doric capitals, and two arched dormers on the hipped roof.</p><br>
<p>Larrabee died while the building was under construction, and his wife took over supervising its construction. From 1913 to 1924 it housed all grades until a high school was built. It remained as an elementary school until 1990 when the city of Clermont acquired the building for use as a public library and city hall. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.</p><br>
<p>Monte Sirai is an archaeological site near Carbonia, in the province of South Sardinia, Sardinia, Italy. Its a settlement built at the top of a hill by the Phoenicians of Sulci . The history of studies in Monte Sirai has a very precise date: the fall of 1962, when a local boy casually found a female figure carved on a stele of the tophet. Following further inspections, in August 1963, the local Soprintendenza and the Institute of Near Eastern Studies of the Sapienza University of Rome started excavations, leading to a fairly comprehensive study of the entire village.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Given the excellent location of the hill, the site was inhabited since the neolithic age. Some nuragic towers witness an important anthropization in the first half of the II millennium BC. The first Phoenician records date back to 730 BC circa, at the same time of other coastal cities of Sardinia. The town is built around the so-called mastio, a sacred place that undergone several renovations, perhaps with defensive function. The discovery of a statue of the goddess Astarte (now in the National Museum of Cagliari), discovered in 1964, confirms a use of religious type.</p><br>
<p>The town was affected by the Carthaginian conquest in the 6th century BC. A dozen new families settled subsequently in Monte Sirai, as witnessed by many hypogeum-tombs of Punic types; the rite of cremation, prevalent during the Phoenician period, was substituted by the entombment. The city wall was strengthened around 375 BC, roughly the period of appearance of the first local tophet. A subsequent restoration of the fortifications was carried out after the First Punic War; under the Roman rule all the military facilities were dismantled. Around 110 BC the site was inexplicably abandoned. Subsequent frequentations are witnessed by some Constantinian era coins found in the tophet area.</p><br>
<p>The Douglas & Jarvis Patent Parabolic Truss Iron Bridge is a historic bridge across the Missisquoi River in Highgate, Vermont. Located at the end of Mill Hill Road, it is at 215 ft one of the longest bridges of its type in the northeastern United States. It was built in 1887, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Douglas & Jarvis Patent Parabolic Truss Iron Bridge stands south of Highgate Falls village, at the end of Mill Hill Road, where it formerly crossed the Missisquoi River to meet Highgate Road (Vermont Route 207). The bridge is oriented east-west across the river, just downstream (north of) the dam at Highgate Falls, and is open to pedestrian use. It is 215 ft long and is set on stone abutments. It is of a parabolic or lenticular truss design, with a secondary lenticular pony truss span at its southern end. The main trusses are supported by iron I-beam portal posts topped by decorative finials, and are joined to each other by a web of overhead iron rods.</p><br>
<p>The bridge was built in 1887 by the Berlin Iron Bridge Company of Berlin, Connecticut, which held rights to the Douglas and Jarvis patent for the lenticular truss design. The bridge was one of the first to be built in the state with state-assisted local funding, and is one of the largest surviving lenticular truss bridges in the northeastern United States. The company built many instances of this design in the late 19th century, but gradually phased out its use in the early 20th century.</p><br>
<p>Xiangmi Lake is man-made recreational lake located in Futian District, Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. It covers a total surface area of 1.94 km&sup2; and has a storage capacity of some 1,783,500 m&sup3; of water. The lake provides landscape water and is used for flood and silt control, and recreational activities, such as boating, swimming, and fishing.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Xiangmi Lake was established and opened to the public in 1966, which has fun, food and drink, and tourism. At that time it bore the name Xiangmaochang Reservoir, which was extended to a small reservoir in 1978.</p><br>

<p>The Kents Corner Historic District encompasses a well-preserved 19th-century crossroads hamlet in Calais, Vermont. Centered on the junction of Kent Hill Road, Old West Church Road, and Robinson Cemetery Road, it developed as a stagecoach stop with a small industrial presence. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, and substantially enlarged in 2006.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Kents Corner area of Calais was settled in the late 1780s by members of the Wheelock family, and the area that is now called Kents Corner was where Remember Kent built his first log cabin (now incorporated into a nearby house) in 1797. The main roads (Kent Hill Road running east-west and Old West Church Road/Robinson Cemetery Road running north-south) were laid out in the early 20th century, crossing on Kent&#39;s property. The north-south road became part of a stagecoach route between Montpelier and Montreal, and the Kents added a tavern and general store to their holdings, the former surviving as a fine Federal period brick house that has most recently seen use as a local history museum. The area has historically remained rural and agricultural, although there have been several small-scale industrial uses, including mills and a small brickyard.</p><br>
<p>When first listed on the National Register in 1973, the district consisted of the properties within 0.25 mi of the road junction, extended southward on Old West Church Road to include the Old West Church. Its resources were also incompletely described. In 2006, following a resurvey of the area, the district was substantially enlarged, extending eastward to Pekins Brook Road, westward about halfway to Maple Corner, and southward beyond the Old West Church to Bliss and Fowler Roads. In addition to the predominantly Greek Revival architecture found in the area, the expanded district includes industrial archaeological resources, and landscape features such as the Bliss Town Forest. At the eastern end of the district is the former church building that now serves as Calais Town Hall. North of the junction on Robinson Cemetery Road stands a 19th century sawmill.</p><br>
<p>Honey Hollow Camp is a historic farm and retreat property on Honey Hollow Road in Bolton, Vermont. The property, originally marginal farmland, was developed as a wartime retreat during World War II. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>Honey Hollow Camp is located in a remote rural area of southwestern Bolton, on the northwestern slope of Camels Hump, Vermonts fourth-highest mountain. It is set in the valley created by Preston Brook, on a terrace overlooking the brook. The property is 53 acre, of which about 10 acre are open fields on either side of Honey Hollow Road, with the balance in woodland. The historic developed features of the property consist of a wood frame cabin with attached garage, a generator shed, and woodshed. The cabin is finished in vertical board siding recovered from a 19th-century barn which was demolished at the time of the cabins construction; some of the barn&#39;s timbers were also used in the cabin framing.</p><br>
<p>The Honey Hollow area had been a thriving small farm community, with numerous farms, a sawmill, and a school, but fell into decline in the early 20th century, many of its farms abandoned and reverting to woodland. In 1940, the Honey Hollow farm property was purchased by Carl and Edith Wurm of New York City, who sought a remote country retreat that they thought would be safe from bombing during World War II. The cabin was designed by Louis S. Newton, a prominent Burlington architect, and was built in 1941. The Wurms retained ownership of the camp, sharing it with friends and family until his death in the 1960s. In the 1970s, it was acquired by the Wooden family and underwent some alteration and restoration, mainly to the landscaping to retain the property&#39;s views.</p><br>
<p>Cahermacnaghten is a ringfort south of Ballyvaughan in the Burren area, in County Clare, Ireland. Nearby is the site of the famous O&#39;Davoran law school. The fort is a National Monument of Ireland.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>The fort lies right close to a road between the village of Ballyvaughan and Kilfenora. It is located in the townland of Cahermacnaghten, parish of Rathborney.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The ODavorans were the hereditary lawyers (or brehons) of the OLoghlen family, who styled themselves "Kings of the Burren" in the Middle Ages. Although it was long thought that their law school was located inside the cashel, it is now considered probable that the actual school was another ruined building 870 m to the southwest, known as Cabhail Tighe Breac. At the time the ringfort likely contained a residential building. This was the principal place (ceann áit) of the O&#39;Davoran family.</p><br>
<p>Written evidence of the O&#39;Davorans goes back at least to 1364 (Annals of Connaught). The ringfort was occupied at least into the 17th century, as a 1606 deed specifies the division of the property between two scions of the family.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The cashel has a diameter of around 100 feet. The interior floor is higher than the surrounding countryside, probably as a result of accumulated occupation debris. The interior contains five rectangular stone buildings.</p><br>
<p>An unusual two-storied 15th-century gatehouse gives access to the ringfort. Although it is now in a state of collapse, 19th- and early 20th-century descriptions and pictures are extant.</p><br>
<p>At least four other cashels, numerous enclosures and various old field walls fill the roughly 3 km long sohallow valley running NE to SW. At the time, the area thus contained a large community and was more densely populated in the 16th and 17th centuries than it is now.</p><br>
<p>The probable law school building has been investigated by archaeologists since 2007. It is a single-storied stone building with three rooms and a loft overhead. It likely was built at the turn of the 16th century as a non-residential place. A recent excavation has turned up a piece of slate with a single character inscribed upon it, which may support the assumed use as a school.</p><br>
<p>Jong-il Peak is one of the peaks of Mount Sobaek, south-east of Paektu Mountain. The height is 5,899 ft . It is located near the shore of Sobaek Stream, in Samjiyon County, Ryanggang Province, North Korea.</p><br>
<p>Main rocks of the peak are trachyte, rhyolite and basalt. The southern slope is a cliff about 328 ft (100 m) height, at the foot of the rock of 30—35° slope is a thick layer of scree, which is connected with the alluvial soil of the valley of Sobaek Stream. The flat northern slope is connected with Saja Peak. Eastern slope is steeper than the western. At the Chŏng-il Peak, which is surrounded by dense forest, grows over 300 species of plants, such as 16 species of trees and 40 species of shrubs. There are Manchurian Fir, Jezo Spruce and Olgan Larch growing around the peak, and well as Royal Azalea, Rhododendron mucronulatum and Japanese Rowan — on the southern slope.</p><br>
<p>Initially, the peak was named Changsu. In 1930—1940, there was the secret camp of anti-Japanese guerrillas under with the rate of the Korean People&#39;s Revolutionary Army. According to the official North Korean historiography, Kim Jong-il was born there. In 1988, the peak was renamed to Jong-il, in honour of Kim Jong-il. A “Revolutionary Historic Site” was arranged at the territory of the former camp. Three granite plates with the name of peak, carved in red letters, were constructed on the southern rock. In 1992, for the Kim Jong-il’s 50ᵗʰ anniversary, a memorial plate with congratulatory ode “To the Shining Star” by Kim Il-sung was placed near the camp.</p><br>
<p>There are lot of literary works in North Korea carolling Jong-il Peak. O Yŏng-jae has writing about the peak in 6ᵗʰ chapter of “Sons of the people” (1991). “Oh, Jong-il Peak” by Chŏn Byŏng-gu (1989) and “The Thunderstorm over Jong-il Peak” by Wangjaesan Light Music Band were dedicated to the peak.</p><br>
<p>The Shapo Reservoir  is located 5 km south of Haikou city, Hainan, China, south of Shapo Village at Chengxi Town. The purpose of this reservoir is to prevent floods and conserve water for supply to Haikou. It is roughly 2 km long. A single dam is located at the east side with an adjacent water outlet. Water released from this dam flows into a spillway and then starts the Meishi River. This narrow river then flows eastward under Longkun Road just south of the Haikou East Railway Station. It then turns north and empties into the Haidian River.</p><br>
<p>Construction of the Shapo Reservoir started in 1959 and was completed in 1964. Reinforcements were made in 2013.</p><br>
<p>Shapo is a medium-size reservoir being 27.46 sq km. It can hold 14,190,000 cubic metres of water. The normal water level is 30 metres, and at that level, it contains 11,320,000 cubic metres of water.</p><br>
<p>It was designed and is administered within Longhua District&#39;s jurisdiction.</p><br>
<p>The necropolis of Pranu Muttedu is one of the most important funerary areas of pre-Nuragic Sardinia and is located near Goni, a small village in the province of South Sardinia. The complex has the highest known concentration of menhirs and megaliths in Sardinia , two megalithic tombs and a Domus de Janas surrounded by stone circles.</p><br>
<p>The complex has been excavated by Enrico Atzeni, on several occasions since 1980. The site was used from the Ozieri culture period to the early Copper age.</p><br>

<p>Daikoku Island is an uninhabited island in Akkeshi, Hokkaidō, Japan. Together with the smaller island of Kojima to the north, it forms a natural breakwater at the entrance to Akkeshi Bay. The island forms part of Akkeshi Prefectural Natural Park and its entire area of 107 hectares is a Special Wildlife Protection Area. Twelve hectares of the breeding grounds have been designated a Natural Monument.</p><br>
<p>Also found on the island are the grey-sided vole and harbour seal. Trees include the green alder, painted maple, and Ermans birch; other plants, Sakhalin knotweed and Parasenecio hastatus. At the southwest tip of the island at an elevation of approximately 105 metres is Akkeshi Lighthouse, which began operations on 25 November 1890. Of the islands 107 hectares, 64 are owned by the state, 42 by the municipality, and 1 is in private hands.</p><br>
<p>The Downtown Richford Historic District encompasses a cluster of commercial and industrial buildings at the center of Richford, Vermont. Centered on the junction of Main and River Streets are a cluster of mainly brick buildings, built between 1880 and 1920, with several industrial properties just across the Missisquoi River to the south, whose waters provided the power for the industries that fueled the town&#39;s growth. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The northern Vermont town of Richford developed in the late 1790s around a series of falls on the upper Missisquoi River, where its early settlers built sawmills and gristmills. In the 1850s it developed as a regional commercial and industrial center, spurred by tariff reductions for trade with neighboring Quebec, which brought a market for area goods and an influx of French-speaking immigrants. The mills were located primarily on the south side of the falls, powered by a water diverted into a raceway east of the area, and the town&#39;s commercial center grew on the north side of the falls. The area declined economically after World War I, and has remained at a reduced level of economic activity since.</p><br>
<p>The historic district encompasses both commercial and industrial buildings arranged on either side of the Missisquoi River, which Main Street crosses on a 1928 pony truss bridge, built after the previous crossing was washed away in 1927. From the junction of Main and River Streets, brick commercial buildings extend east and west on the south side of River Street, and on the north side west of the junction. These were almost all built between 1880 and 1920, and are in typical commercial variants of Italianate and Queen Anne styling. South of the river, on the west side of Main Street, stand two industrial buildings, built in 1908 out of concrete blocks by the Sweat-Comings Company, and the adjacent fire station, built by town but also out of concrete blocks.</p><br>
<p>44 Front Street in Burlington, Vermont is a well-preserved vernacular Queen Anne Revival house. Built about 1860 and significantly altered in 1892, it is representative of two periods of the city&#39;s growth in the 19th century. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>44 Front Street stands on the east side of Front Street, a short north-south street just north of Battery Park in Burlington&#39;s Old North End neighborhood. It is a two story wood frame structure, with an L-shaped footprint and cross-gabled roof. It is finished in wooden clapboards and rests on a stone foundation. The front facade is two bays wide, with one entrance in the right-hand bay, sheltered by a gabled porch with turned posts and Victorian brackets. The left bay is a projecting polygonal window bay on the ground floor; the second floor windows are regular sash, extending up into the gable end. A second entrance is located in a right-side porch set in the crook of the L, with similar posts and brackets.</p><br>
<p>The house was built about 1860, when the area was known as "Glassville" for the large number of residents who worked at the nearby Champlain Glass Company. The house was given its present shape by Joseph Cota, a worker for the Central Vermont Railroad. Cota needed more space for his large family, and also updated it with modest elements of then-fashionable Queen Anne styling. It was divided into a two-family in the early 1900s, and the property had as many as four units, some of which were located in auxiliary buildings to the rear (since removed). The house presently has three residential units.</p><br>
<p>The Schlotterbeck and Foss Building is an historic factory building at 117 Preble Street in Portland, Maine. Built in 1927, it is a particularly rare example of Art Deco architecture in Portland, the only one known by the noted Maine architects John Calvin Stevens and John Howard Stevens. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The former Schlotterbeck and Foss building is located on the north side of Portland&#39;s downtown area, at the southeast corner of Preble and Kennebec Streets. The building is a five-story masonry structure, with a concrete frame and an exterior of buff brick with cast stone. The ground floor is finished in cast stone, while the upper floors are primarily brick with stone trim. The central three bays project slightly, and the main entrance at its base is sheltered by a metal canopy supported by chains. The building corners also project in the manner of pilasters, and have decorative Art Deco details in the top level. Its facade is topped by a low parapet with stepped caps at the corners.</p><br>
<p>Arthur Schlotterbeck, a German immigrant, established a pharmacy in Portland in 1866. In 1887 he was joined by Charles Foss, a Maine native, and the two embarked on the production of patent medicines, which were primarily marketed as remedies for a variety of female health issues. In 1892 they branched out into the production of flavored extracts for cooking. This build was designed for them by John Calvin Stevens and his son John Howard Stevens, and was completed in 1927. It is a rare surviving industrial design by the elder Stevens, and is the only known Art Deco design by the team. Its interior, designed for the manufacture, distribution, and marketing of the company&#39;s products, is also rare as a significantly unaltered example of period factory architecture, both inside and out.</p><br>
<p>The Chauncey B. Leonard House is a historic house on Shed Road at Crosstown Road in Berlin, Vermont. Built about 1845, it is one of the oldest houses in Berlin, built in the Berlin Corners area that was once the town center. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Chauncey B. Leonard House stands at the northwest corner of Shed Road and Crosstown Road, about 0.2 mi west of Paine Turnpike, a historically major north-south route through the area, and just east of Pond Brook, impounded in historic times for the construction of mills. The house is a modest 1-1/2 story wood frame Cape style structure, with a gabled roof and clapboarded exterior. It is five bays wide and three deep, and faces Shed Road, now the access road to the town&#39;s municipal complex. The main entrance is sheltered by a porch with Victorian turned posts and balusters, and a spindled valance above. Ground floor windows on the facade facing Crosstown Road are topped by slight projections decorated with scallop-cut shingles, and the gable above has angled siding at the peak.</p><br>
<p>The Berlin Corners area developed as a small village in the early 19th century, and became more prominent as a civic center after the towns first meeting house (located on Turner Hill) burned down in 1838. Located at the outlet of Berlin Pond, Pond Brook provided water power for grist and saw mills, and was the towns early economic center. Chauncey Leonard, a blacksmith, built his house here about 1845, and it was for many years associated with various owners of the mills. The house&#39;s Queen Anne alterations were made by Mary Perkins, who purchased it in 1892 and lived here for forty years.</p><br>
<p>The Robinhood Free Meetinghouse is a historic church building at 210 Robinhood Road in Georgetown, Maine. Built in 1856, it is modest example of vernacular Greek Revival architecture, distinctive as one of Maine&#39;s few rural 19th-century churches to have its sanctuary space on the second floor. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016; it has recently been converted for use as a restaurant.</p><br>

<p>The former Robinhood Free Meetinghouse stands in a rural area in the northern part of the island community of Georgetown, at the junction of Robinhood and Webber Roads. It is a two-story wood frame structure, with a gabled roof and clapboarded exterior. The front facade is symmetrical, with two entrances flanking a square multipane window in the center, above which is a sash window. The building corners have paneled pilasters rising to an entablature and a fully pedimented cornice. An open deck with balustrade extends most of the way across the front and beyond the left corner. The first floor interior originally consisted of three small chambers across the front, and a larger open chamber to the rear, which was used as a classroom. The main sanctuary is on the second floor, with original pews and other 19th-century features.</p><br>
<p>The church was built in 1856, to house Methodist and Congregationalist church groups. The downstairs area served as a vestry meeting space and classroom for religious instruction. The church was designed by Moses Riggs, member of the locally prominent Riggs family, and was built on land given by Herbert Low and Francis Low, Jr. The Congregationalists ceased use of the church in 1864, while the Methodist congregation continued to use it for another century. It has since passed into private ownership, and has recently been adapted for use as a restaurant.</p><br>
<p>Alexander-Dickman Hall, formerly known as Old Sem, Old Main, and College Hall, is a historic building located on the campus of Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa, United States. It was the first building built for the college, and for a number of years it was its only building. Construction on the building began in 1855 and it was completed two years later. Its significance derives, in part, from it being "one of the largest and best preserved native stone buildings still in use in Iowa." Architecturally, the three-story limestone structure is influenced by several styles. Its simplicity of form reflects the Neoclassical style in its evenly spaced windows and arched doorway. The Palladian windows and the structure&#39;s tripartite arrangement capped by a triangular pediment of the main facade reflects the Federalist style. The bracketed eaves at the cornice reflects the Italianate style. The building is capped with a domed cupola. It received its present name in 1963 being named for the man who first financed to college  and its president in the 1920s . The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.</p><br>
<p>Maynard Town Hall and Jail is a historic building located in Maynard, Iowa, United States. Before this building was constructed the town had no building to enact its business. They used the mayor&#39;s house or place of business for his office and council meetings. After it was completed, this building served as a jail into the late 1930s and as the city hall until 1952, when a new community building was completed. For most of the time it served as a jail it was outfitted with bars and had bunks. It was a short-term lock-up for those who committed minor infractions. It was used for a public library beginning in the 1940s. After its use as a city hall, it was bought by a local merchant for use in his grocery store in 1957. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.</p><br>
<p>The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad Company Depot, also known as Fayette Depot, is a historic building located northeast of Fayette, Iowa, United States. The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad reached Fayette in 1874 and this depot was built at that time to serve as a combination passenger and freight station. It was hoped that a rail station in centrally located Fayette would mean the city would become the county seat for Fayette County, but West Union to the north got the designation instead. The single-story frame structure has a bay window to give the telegraph operator a view up and down the tracks. An addition was constructed in 1913. It served as the community&#39;s rail depot well into the 20th century. It was moved to its current location in the Volga River State Recreation Area. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.</p><br>
<p>Hotel Mealey, also known as Hotel Iowan, is a historic building located in Oelwein, Iowa, United States. The Chicago Great Western Railway reached Oelwein in 1887, and beginning in 1893 they started to expand their operations in the city. Because they moved their shops here, Oelwein experienced a building boom, including this hotel. St. Paul businessman Michael Mealey, whose son James was a local merchant, was responsible for organizing the hotel. The Chicago architectural firm of Marvel & DeMoney designed the building, and Thomas Fitzpatrick of St. Paul was the contractor. The first three floors of the brick structure were completed in 1898, and the top floor was added in 1916. The Boss hotel chain operated the hotel from 1920 to 1969. The hotels fortunes began to change in 1964 when the Chicago Great Western and the Chicago and North Western Railroad began a merger, and operations in Oelwein were diminished over time. A major ongoing hotel lease was canceled in 1980 that resulted in the hotels demise. It was last known as the Hotel Iowan. The building was converted into residential use. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.</p><br>
<p>The Huntington Lower Village Church, also known historically as the Huntington Union Meeting House, is a historic church building at 2156 Main Road in Huntington, Vermont. Built in 1870, it is a fine late example of Greek Revival architecture. It now houses the Huntington Public Library and serves as a community center. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.</p><br>

<p>The former Huntington Lower Village Church building stands in the rural village center of Huntington, on the west side of Main Road north of its junction with Bridge Street. It is a single-story wood frame structure, with a gabled roof and clapboarded exterior. A three-stage tower rises from the ridge line behind the front facade. Its first stage is square, with corner pilasters and small cornice and entablature. The second stage is octagonal, with corner pilasters and blind louvered openings on four side. The third stage, which houses the belfry, is a reduced version of the second stage, and is capped by a round cupola. The building&#39;s corners have paneled pilasters, which rise to a broad entablature that extends across the front and sides. The main entrance is centered, with flanking paneled pilasters rising to an entablature and cornice. The gable above is fully pedimented, with an applied diamond form at its center.</p><br>
<p>The church was built in 1870, on the site of an older church built in 1839 for the use of multiple religious organizations. The older building (no longer standing) was moved a short distance to serve as town hall. The present building saw use by religious organizations into the 20th century, its usage gradually declining. Its main hall has since been converted to house the town library, and other spaces are available for community use.</p><br>
<p>The District No. 4 School, also known as the First East School or Ledgeville School, is an historic school building at 191 East Road in Petersham, Massachusetts. Built in 1846, it is one of the town&#39;s older surviving district school buildings, and now serves as a local community hall. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The District No. 4 School is located in a rural area of eastern Petersham, on the north side of East Road a short way west of its junction with Quaker Drive. It is a single-story wood frame structure, with a gable roof, clapboarded exterior, and a stone foundation. The street-facing facade houses a single door, which provides access to the building. The side walls each have three windows. Trim consists of simple pilasters at the corners, and an entry surround with pilasters, transom window, and paneled entablature. A vertically oriented flagpole is attached above the door.</p><br>
<p>The town of Petersham, incorporated in 1754, established a district school system consisting of thirteen districts. The present district 4 schoolhouse was built in 1846, and is one three school buildings from the 1840s to survive in the town. It was built on a site that had a schoolhouse on it since at least 1788, and was formally deeded to the local district in 1800. The present school was built as a replacement of a building constructed in 1803. District schools were formally abolished in Massachusetts in 1866, but this school remained open until 1943, the last in the town to be closed. The school building had a long history of use for local community functions, which continued after its educational functions ended. It is now managed by the Ledgeville Association as a community resource.</p><br>
<p>The ‘’’Sepulveda Unitarian Universalist Society’’’ is a Unitarian Universalist church located in North Hills, Los Angeles, California. Its distinctive building, known as “The Onion,” was designated Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument #975 in 2010.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The present-day Sepulveda Unitarian Universalist Society was founded in 1943 as the United Liberal Church of the Valley. It later became the People’s Church of the San Fernando Valley and then in 1956 the Valley Unitarian Universalist Church.</p><br>
<p>In the early 1960s the congregation found itself in need of a larger space and bought a five-acre ranch property in North Hills. They chose Frank Ehrenthal, a Universalist and student of Richard Neutra, to design the new building. After talking with and observing the members of the congregation, Ehrenthal designed a round building where people could face each other on an equal footing. “The Onion” was completed in 1964 and is built of glued laminated timber beams that curve from the foundation to the flat point at the top of the roof. The entire building is covered with composition (originally wood) shingles.</p><br>
<p>In February 1966 “The Onion’’ became the site of one of the famous Acid Tests put on by the Merry Pranksters. The then-minister of the church, Paul Sawyer, had met Pranksters&#39; leader Ken Kesey at the annual California Unitarian Church conference at Asilomar State Beach. According to Sawyer’s memoir, Prankster Ken Babbs called to ask if they could put on an Acid Test, and Sawyer said they could as long as they didn’t give out acid (LSD) to the audience.</p><br>
<p>The Bigler Building  is a historic building located at 210 Mill Street in Clermont, Iowa.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The simple, single-story brick structure was built in about 1906 by Fred Bigler who operated the local lumberyard and was a contractor. This property had long been the location for a blacksmith shop. Burkhard Riegel, a German immigrant, opened his shop in this building in 1931. He rented the space until he bought the building from Bigler&#39;s widow in 1946. After his death in 1990, the Clermont Historical Society acquired the building for a living history museum, and it contains its original blacksmithing equipment and furnishings.</p><br>
<p>It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 9, 1995.</p><br>
<p>The Elgin Block is a historic building located in Elgin, Iowa, United States. Completed in 1872, this two- and three-story Italianate-style brick structure features four storefronts. It was the first major brick building in Elgin, and saved the town after the Burlington, Cedar Rapids and Minneapolis Railroad placed their depot in the adjoining village of Lutra the same year. Lutra eventually became a part of Elgin. While a single building, it is divided into four parts that were owned separately. Retail businesses were located on the first floor across the block. Apartments were located on the second floors of 225 and 227. The third floor of 227 housed a Independent Order of Odd Fellows lodge, the International Association of Rebekah Assemblies, and the Order of the Eastern Star. It is the only section with three floors. The second floor of 229 and 231 housed a concert hall. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.</p><br>
<p>Yerköprü Waterfall  is a waterfall in Konya Province, central Turkey.</p><br>
<p>The waterfall is located at Habiller village in Hadim district of Konya Province, about 110 km south of Konya. It is at a distance of 72 km from the neighboring city Karaman.</p><br>
<p>It is formed at a place, where the river was blocked by earth from the slopes of the river valley due to landslide. Spring water named Karasu, which outcropped from the valley slope, overspread on the landslide earth mass and formed a layer of travertine. In the long run, the stream submerged under the natural barrage and formed an underground water tunnel, which is a cave of about 500 m. Karasu spring water joins Göksu River here. The cave contains stalactites and stalagmites inside. The waterfall is on the Göksu River, and drops from the travertines to the river bed in a height of 20 m.</p><br>
<p>The cave and the waterfall are named after the place "Yerköprü", which means literally "ground bridge".</p><br>
<p>It is a popular tourist attraction. The site has paved walkways, shelters with outdoor furniture for picnic and a car parking lot. The waterfall can be best observed in a bird&#39;s eye view from the nearby Çakallar village, which is situated at an elevation of 1,000 m.</p><br>
<p>The Enosburg Opera House is a historic performance venue and meeting space at 123 Depot Street in Enosburg Falls, Vermont. Built in 1892 by the B.J. Kendall Company, a prominent local employer, it has been used since then as a regionally prominent performance venue. It also serves as the site of Enosburg&#39;s town meetings. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.</p><br>

<p>The Enosburg Opera House stands in the village of Enosburg Falls, on the north side of Depot Street midway between Pleasant Street and Vermont Route 108. It is a large rectangular wood frame structure, with a single story set on a high basement and stone foundation. A 3-1/2 story square tower rises from one corner, forming a highly visible landmark in the village. It has a gable-on-hip roof and its exterior is finished in clapboards. The main entrance is set in a recess on the street-facing front facade, providing access to the basement level.</p><br>
<p>The opera house was built in 1892, and was a gift to the town of the B.J. Kimball Company. B.J. Kimball was a local pharmacist who became wealthy marketing remedies for horse ailments. It was formally given to the town in 1894, and has hosted its town meetings since. It also continues to serve as a performance space, having hosted such notables as John Philip Sousa in its early days.</p><br>
<p>The Mad River Valley Rural Historic District encompasses a large rural landscape in northern Waitsfield and southern Moretown, Vermont. Encompassing some 1,400 acre of bottom lands on either side of the Mad River, the area has seen active agricultural use since the late 18th century, and retains a number of mid-19th century farmsteads. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>Vermonts Mad River is a north-flowing tributary of the Winooski River, which feeds Lake Champlain at Burlington. The historic district, with the river meandering through its middle is roughly bounded on the east by North Road, the west by Vermont Route 100, and the south by Tremblay Road. Its northern boundary is roughly Downsville Brook, an east-flowing tributary in Moretown. This area is one of the broader stretches of the rivers flood plain, bounded at the northern and southern ends by terrain that narrows the rivers passage. It is roughly bisected by Meadow Road, which crosses the river at one of the areas oldest crossing sites.</p><br>
<p>This section of the Mad River valley was populated in the 1780s by white settlers, drawn by its agricultural potential. The earliest road, roughly North Road to the Meadow Road crossing, was laid out by 1796, and the Mad River Turnpike (now Vermont Route 100, and Route 100B from their junction) was opened in 1807. Early farmers were generally diversified in their early production, and had begun focusing on cattle and Morgan horses by the mid-19th century. With the introduction of the railroad in a neighboring valley, and the development of refrigerated rail cars later in the 19th century, the area&#39;s farmers turned to the production of butter. It is during this period that many of the area farmsteads achieved their present form, although many of the active ones have had modern facilities added. Prominent examples of farmsteads are found on Vermont 100 and North Road, generally set outside the flood plain, because the river has historically flooded on numerous occasions.</p><br>
<p>Azas Plateau is a volcanic field in Russia. It is also known as East Tuva Plateau, Khamsara-Biykhem Plateau and Northeast Tuva Plateau. It covers a surface area of 2,000 km&sup2; west of Lake Baikal. Volcanic activity in the area also occurred at the Oka Plateau and the Jom-Bolok volcanic field.</p><br>
<p>The field is formed by a late Pliocene lava plateau. Several volcanoes formed under the influence of ice and are constructed by lava flows and hyaloclastite, these are so-called tuyas which form by eruptions of volcanoes into ice. Ice meltwater floods may have accompanied this activity. The youngest dated volcanic centre was active 48,000 ± 20,000 years ago, but some lava flows may be even younger.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>The field is located in southern Siberia, between the East Sayan Mountains and the Todzha basin. There it covers a surface area of 2,000 km&sup2; west of Lake Baikal, at an altitude of 2,000 m. Volcanic landforms include cones, lava fields, tuyas, and other volcanic structures including scoria cones, volcanic dykes, volcanic necks and volcanic vents. Other landforms are cirques and U-shaped valleys left by previous glaciations. The Bii Khem river, a tributary of the Yenisei River, crosses the field. Politically the field belongs to the Tuva Republic of Russia, and is in a remote area where access is difficult. The volcanoes have been described in the 1850–1900 years.</p><br>
<h2>Geological context</h2><br>
<p>It is part of the Tuva volcanic province of the Baikal Rift Zone, which is linked to a hotspot that has raised the terrain to up to 3,000 m. Activity in the rift zone after starting in the Oligocene reached its maximum during the Miocene. Together with the Oka Plateau the Azas Plateau forms the East Sayan province of the Baikal Rift Zone. Activity in the Azas Plateau has been influenced by a tectonic graben in the area. The Azas Plateau is the largest lava field in the Tuva volcanic province. The Jom-Bolok volcanic field may be related to the Azas Plateau.</p><br>
<h2>Geomorphology</h2><br>
<p>A large lava field with thicknesses of 250 m formed during the Late Pliocene, when the largest eruptions took place. These flows reached a thickness of approximately 250 m. Nine volcanoes bearing evidence of having formed beneath ice are found in the southeastern part of the field. Volcanoes on the plateau are about 400 - high and have the form of tables. Ash cones formed on the individual edifices. The lava flows on the table-shaped volcanoes also display rounded hollows. Many volcanoes appear to be part of a lineament. Volcanism may be influenced by strike-slip faults associated with the Jom-Bolok fault.</p><br>
<p>Individual volcanoes in the Azas Plateau volcanic field include the Derbi-Taiga tuya (52&deg;22&prime;15&Prime;N latitude, 98&deg;14&prime;8&Prime;E longitude), which is formed by several layers of hyaloclastite and lava flows and displays a prominent "winged" topography. The hyaloclastite layers were formerly considered to be tuffs and reach thicknesses of 8 m. Pillow lavas also exist. A system of ancient valleys formed by floods are found near to Derbi-Taiga. Ulug-Arginskii (52&deg;23&prime;18&Prime;N latitude, 98&deg;23&prime;7&Prime;E longitude) is a cone that formed exposed in the air. The cone is accompanied by a maar with a lake to the south, and a lava flow from the cone reached 10 km in length. Shivit-Taiga with a length of over 10 km and a height of 500 m is among the biggest volcanoes in the world that formed beneath ice, but Derby-Taiga may be even larger depending on how the size is measured. Shivit-Taiga covers a surface of 100 km&sup2; and is 500 m high. This edifice is a stratovolcano and it features two craters with diameters of 250 m and 100 m. Lava lakes formed in two craters on the volcano. Shivit-Taiga too is accompanied by a topography that indicates that ancient floods passed there. Kokhemskii is 2,648 m and was affected by glacial erosion. Sorug-Chushku-Uzu 1 km north of Shivit-Taiga is 2,525 m high.</p><br>
<p>Some volcanoes have been affected by landsliding, gully formation and glaciation after their formation. Likewise, the field has been affected by erosion, forming deep valleys with glacier deposits.</p><br>
<h2>Effects of glaciation</h2><br>
<p>The Azas Plateau was affected by an ice sheet which formed on the East Sayan mountains during the Pleistocene. When volcanoes erupt into ice, the ice melts and volcanic structures named tuyas can form in meltwater lakes. Runny lavas can form such edifices, which tend to have steep slopes, only when trapped within ice. During tuya activity, the subaqueous activity forms hyaloclastite and when the activity occurs in the air lava flows are formed, including lava deltas. Some of the tuyas in the Azas Plateau may have formed through complex eruptive processes. Based on the tuyas of the Tuvan field, it has been determined that ice thicknesses in the area exceeded 700 m and that at least three different ice ages occurred in the field. The tuyas in the Azas plateau have been compared to volcanic edifices in the Valles Marineris on Mars. Non-tuya volcanic ice interaction landforms are also found, such as Albine-Bondok, Charash-Dag and Sagan which are subglacial mounds. Glaciation was already in progress under marine isotope stage 5 (127,000 - 71,000 years ago) and by the stage 4 (71,000 - 57,000 years ago) it was continuous over the Azas Plateau. Glacier retreat was underway by the isotope stage 3 (57,000 - 24,000 years ago), when some volcanoes formed in the air.</p><br>
<h2>Composition</h2><br>
<p>Volcanism is overall basaltic, volcanic rocks erupted by the Azas Plateau include basalt and trachybasalt. Other volcanoes in the Baikal Rift Zone have erupted the same rocks. These rocks are alkaline and their texture is aphyric. Minerals contained in the rocks include augite, clinopyroxene, olivine, plagioclase, -containing magnetite and nepheline in the more alkaline rocks. The total volume of volcanic rocks is about 600 km3. Hematite is present in the rocks and gives many tuyas a red colour. Based on geochemistry, the magma formed at depths of 80 km. Volcaniclastic rocks were originally considered to be tuffs. Cumulates and xenoliths from the mantle have been found at some volcanoes.</p><br>
<h2>Chronology</h2><br>
<p>Volcanic activity in the Azas Plateau commenced during the Late Pliocene. Activity continued into the Holocene. Before volcanism of the Azas Plateau started, volcanism occurred in the Oka plateau. The Azas trough formed in the Miocene-Pliocene.</p><br>
<p>The first volcanic activity beginning 2 million years ago formed voluminous lava flows from fissure vents. Later the activity focused on deep seated lineaments. Volcanic activity between 1.65 - 1.75 mya occurred beneath ice in the ancient valleys of the Bii Khem river. In the middle-late Pleistocene volcanism occurred in the southeastern parts of the field. Some dates obtained on edifices in the Azas Plateau are 725,000 ± 50,000 - 760,000 ± 50,000 years for Derbi-Taiga, 600,000 - 560,000 years for Kadyr-Sugskii, 600,000 - 290,000 for some volcanoes surrounding Derbi-Taiga, 350,000 - 290,000 for Yurdawa between Derbi-Taiga and Shivit-Taiga, 225,000 ± 50,000 for Ploskii, 150,000 ± 50,000 for Kokhemskii, 130,000 ± 40,000 - 110,000 ± 000 for Shivit-Taiga, 75,000 ± 40,000 for Priozernyi, 60,000 ± 40,000 for Sorug-Chushku-Uzu and 48,000 ± 20,000 for Ulug-Arginskii. Some lava flows in the Bii-Khem valley are even younger than the Ulug-Arginskii volcano. It is possible that when eruptions in the Azas Plateau occurred beneath ice, they caused floods of glacial meltwater called Jokulhlaup; corresponding landforms have been found at Derbi-Taiga and Shivit-Taiga volcanoes.</p><br>
<p>Kisecik Canyon , a.k.a. Saklı Cennet , is a canyon in Mersin Province, Turkey.</p><br>
<p>The canyon at 37&deg;06&prime;18&Prime;N latitude, 34&deg;38&prime;54&Prime;E longitude is located in the Toros Mountains. Administratively, it is a part of Çamlıyayla ilçe (district) of Mersin Province, at an elevation of 420 m. Although it is named after the nearest village Kesecik, its shortest road is from Sarıkavak village which is about 7 km to the canyon. The distance from the canyon to Çamlıyayla is 24 km and to Mersin is 76 km. The canyon is locally dubbed Saklı Cennet ("Hidden Heaven").</p><br>
<p>The road between Sarıkavak and the canyon is a popular hiking course. It is stabilized only descending about 500 m downhill. Visitors reach a small pond, which is fed by a creek, a tributary of Berdan River in the canyon. The canyon is very narrow, with steep slopes. It takes about six hours to pass through the canyon by foot on a tough trail. The creek offers recreational outdoor activities like swimming and rafting.</p><br>
